Which of these brake pads would you get, that will work on the street and stop better then most cars?
Hawk Brake Pads April 11th, 2010I tried the EBC brakes but they fell apart and started metal on metal grinding after a year.
I have had good luck with the hawk hps so far but with the great level of braking achieved im not sure if this time I should go with hp plus that is suitable for track use it might brake too much or too fast for a stock vehicle.
I know some of you might think its crazy but I like good brakes and the hps have a smooth pedal effort that is controllable but stop more then on a dime, so I was wondering if going to a race level would be too much for the street.

`You listed an EBC brake that "fell apart". Why not take time to list the specific EBC brake you had trouble with?
The second pad you listed would stop better under most conditions at the expense of eating-up your brake rotors. It seems you have to decide to drive sanely with the first brake pad or feed the car rotors every time the pads wear out with your second choice.
Performance Friction has a brand new metallic, ceramic, carbon pad that will stop better than any Hawk pad. Again at the cost of brake rotor wear.

Brake pads differ mainly in composition and hardness. The fitting of competition pads for road use is pointless for two reasons one they are dearer and two, the amount of stopping power they will provide is not needed on the road as you will put yourself at risk of skidding (yes even with ABS) and also and more importantly, other vehicles will not match your ability to stop as quickly and you render yourself highly likely to be rear ended, regularly.

Go for PREMIUM road pads. If you use competition pads you will not get the life out of them as they are softer and will have to be changed more often however you cannot have brakes that are too good. Its a judgement call for you to make depending on your driving style. personally on my road car I use Bendix. My race car varies as to what is suitable for the race length
