Should i upgrade the brake pads when getting my brakes done?
Hawk Brake Pads August 27th, 2009I own a jeep wrangler, i tow nothing and just drive around town. i went to a local brake shop (Merlin) and got a estimate, for around 350 for front pads and rotors, and rear drum brake adjust. i have no problem paying that if the parts are quality parts. the pads are Bendix ceramic and the rotors are U.S. Brake rotors, does anyone know if these are good parts? i know a place where i could get slotted rotors and Hawk pads, but they would cost around 350 for just parts. so it naturally would cost way more after installation ($90).
any and all help appreciated
my primary concern is that the parts are not cheap. they have a 200,000 mile warrentee, but that does not include labor. i just dont want to be stuck with pads that wear out after 10k miles simply so they can replace them for free, oh plus the 80 dollar install fee…
brakes are not to difficult to replace, it is a lot easy than installing a car alarm or music system

i will just buy the factory pads or the next up ceramic style if the wheel is moving a lot when you stop pill the disc out and send it to be cut, that is about $20.00

do this job in the vehicle, never remove the caliper

you know anyone can replace brake pads at home 30 bucks but stock pads my wife does her own brake jobs dont really need anything more than what was stock rest is up to you and what you want to pay more for normal stock brake job can do for less than 200 at home replacing rotors every three sets of pads cal a parts store ask price for parts your getting

If the pads are Bendix CQ.3 (ceramic) with the U.S. brake rotors the price is a tad high. Parts alone cost less than $160.00
You’d be better off with *EBC slotted and dimpled rotors, EBC - Red (ceramic) pads or Hawk ceramic performance pads on a heavy stop and go vehicle.

keep in mind ceramic pads rely on high temperatures to work properly
thy cost more for a reason
if they don’t get hot . they don’t perform as designed
without towing you will be throwing away money
with low speed driving you can use the cheapest or next step up

and tow race cars without using ceramics
