Best Brand of Ceramic Brake Pads – Dodge Man or anyone?
Hawk Brake Pads April 3rd, 2009I want to go with Ceramic BrakBrake Pads on my 2003 Toyota Highlander.
I am not going to buy OEM pads from Toyota. I read on a similar question Dodge Man answered all he uses in his shop is ceramic pads now, but he did not say a brand.
I want to get as good of pads as I can get. I've read some cheap pads have low ceramic content. I know the name Hawk at Pep Boys. Are these good pads? Who has something better?
I appreciate your responses, I need to move quickly on this.
I just wanted to add that my goals for the pads are to perform as well or better than OEM pads and to LAST as long as OEM pads.
I don't want pads that wear out in half the time.
Yeah definately normal use. And it gets sub-zero here in winter.
Hawk are good racing pads. I would go with raybestos or bendix brand. for normal use.

raybestos # for your vehicle is pgd884c. That is a full ceramic pad with a lifetime warranty. They can be had at pep boys as well. Hawk is a racing pad and used for real hard brakeing. Under normal use they will not stop your vehicle properly. Your stop distances will actually increase because the pad is too cold to operate and get "sticky" Sort of like freezing chewing gum. The warmer it gets the stickier it is. That is how hawk are designed. Back out your driveway and stop at the corner going 40 and you will not stop. It will be like your trying to stop on ice. The Hawk is a good pad but need to be real hot to work. In racing I use a similar pad to Hawk and ride with my foot on the brake for a a few laps just to heat it up.

Best brake pads? That's a loaded question. When you apply your brakes 1 of 2 things has to happen. 1 your brake pads wear and get thinner. 2 your rotors wear and get thinner. for the most part, no brake pad stops a car better than another pad. there are extreme instances where heat becomes a factor but, it has nothing to do with the pad itself or outside temps. The benefit of ceramic pads is ceramic pads do not wear as fast but, see the above statement,
that means your rotors will wear. It all the matter of pay now or pay later. You can buy ceramic pads and replace them less often or you can buy standard pads and replace your rotors less often. whats your poison of choice??
