which is better ceramic or metalic brake pads for the life of the rotor.?
Ceramic Brake pads January 11th, 2010have a 01 ranger. have already turned rotors down once. it only has 30,000 miles. now i bought the best grade of rotor. which is the better pad, ceramic or metallic. never have had any luck with ford ranger brakes. i think their junk. but thats another story. one person says us ceramic another says metallic. i don’t really care which one i use even if metallic creates more dust, if it is better on the rotor i will use it. anybody got a clue why the rotors are not lasting. i am in no way hard on brakes. is it the material (rotor) or is it something out of square or parallalism
Whichever one Ford recommends installing is the best one to use. Ceramic pads on a vehicle intended for SM’s are going to eat rotors. Ceramic pads are also not common on truck fitments because they are more heat sensitive.

Ceramic pads are harder on rotors. They stop better and don’t squeak, but they don’t wear like normal pads, they tend to wear the rotors instead. The semi-metallic pads are the way to go, for rotor life. The trouble is, Ford’s rotors suck. I have replaced one set before 30k on my Escape. Ford has tried a new material to avoid the warping problem and cut costs under warranty. Trouble is, they don’t last much past warranty period. When will they ever learn…..

actually a cheaper lining is easier on your rotors as they are softer material but usually don’t last as long.Make sure the slides on the caliper and brake support are cleaned and not stuck..

Iwuold use the ceramic pads as the sintered metallic are used more for racing, the metallic pads will last longer but are harder on the rotor, they wont fade as quick, but have to be wamed up to work as they are intended. My preferance would be the ceramic for everyday driving. Hope this helps, Good Luck

i’m leaning toward bart… the rotors, though could be up graded to help you out for the long run. it drives me nuts that they put so much into personal comfort instead of long term safety.
