What brake pads are better semi-metallic or ceramic?
Ceramic Brake pads September 9th, 2009Also, what is a good brand name?
Factory original equipment period. If you want a pad with very few problems, go to the dealer. If you want noise problems or as in the case of Raybestos - brake pulsation (oh yeah, that’s right they fixed that problem- after 2 years of comebacks that the shop paid for, not Raybestos. Sorry if I seem bitter, I’m a little angry with having to re-do brake jobs multiple times because of inferior parts that the manufacturer wouldn’t admit to a problems with for 2 years. Nothing beats the factory’s coefficient of friction.

ceramic pads are better, because that run cooler, giving longer pad life and are better on you rotors, helps to keep them cooler and from warping and scoring with hot spots.

Are you racing the vehicle and require your brakes to be constantly operating at intense temperatures with good braking performance and without brake fade??? then ceramic,
otherwise for street use semi-metallic gives excellent performance for normal operationg conditions, just remember the higher performance brake pads wear out faster, think about rotors and dispersing the heat - the heat is what reduces brake effectiveness.

ceramic brake pads are more common for racing applications where brakes are pushed to the limit. If you go to a stock car race in the evening you’ll see brake rotors glowing red. That’s like 2000 degrees. The biggest drawback is they don’t work that well when cold, the hotter they get, the better they work so around town you braking might be slightly less effective. They might take a bit more pedal pressure when first braking till they heat up . Semi metallic are very good for street use and aren’t too expensive.I use Monroe, as good or better then stock pads

Ceramic pads are by far the superior of the two. They last longer and don’t produce the amount of brake dust that semi-metallics do. 85% of todays cars come with OE ceramic pads. Also Raybestos is the best pad on the market. They can be found at a CarQuest Auto Parts store in your area.
