Is it O.K. to have different brake pads for the front then in the rear?
Ceramic Brake pads July 17th, 2009I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 and I need new Brake Pads..I was wondering would it hurt to use different kind of brake pads for the front than for the rear?? I was told that the front does 75% of the stopping… so i was planning to put the better one in the front.
Are Ceramic Brake pads the best to use??
your correct, more braking at the front, better pads area good idea…not many drivers think of that.

If you are replacing both the fronts and the rears, I would replace them as a matched set. Ceramic pads grip differently than organic pads. Under hard, or emergency braking the pressure applied to the rotors could vary from front to rear, causing handling problems. The organic pads are also more likely to fade at high heat than the ceramics… again, causing unbalanced braking and a potential handling problem. As far as I’m concerned, the ceramics are superior to the other types…. and your wheels will be cleaner, because you won’t have a lot of brake dust accumulating on your wheels like the semi-metallics or organics.
