Ceramic Brake pads on 2001 Maxima?
Ceramic Brake pads March 24th, 2010Advanced Auto sold me a pricey set of Weaver Ceramic pads- said they are what are called for in a Maxima- less noise, less heat and better braking performance but harder on the rotors. I didn’t install yet- cost $58 for the front set. Should I use them or return and buy semi-metallics? Any special break in procedure or experiences with these pads? I also bought new rotors.
The only reason to really get ceramic pads is to "reduce" brake dust on your rims so it really doesnt matter.
When ceramic brake pads are worn , can they leave a reddish colored dust on the wheels?

Semi-metallic. The car is not a Porsche or a Skyline.

I have a 2001 dodge dakota they sold me the same pads you have right now.Take them back and get the semi-metallics. After I resurfaced my rotors and installed those pricey pads you are speaking of , 3 weeks later i have to steady keep washing the brake dust off my chrome wheels, plus I have got the squealing noise that i never got from semi-metallics, now I am gonna have to take the ceramic pads off and return them and then replace them with the semi-metallics. I have been doing this stuff all my life and just passing this info along to ya. It is really annoying having to spend the time off work doing a brake job all over for nothing just trying to save a few bucks. just saying.
