Brake Pads

I am doing my brakes today- any suggestion on which are better? The Wagners ThermoQuiets were $58 and the parts store said they are great OEM pads- does anyone have experience with them VS. OEM? They are going on a 2001 Nissan Maxima. Also, what is the break in procedure for ceramic pads with new rotors in the front.

Smart choice to go for ceramic pads. They are actually quite gentle on rotors and have great stopping power. Just buy pads with a certified label from D3EA testing or BMC testing and then buy based on price.

There is no special break in procedure other than take it easy for the first few stops so that the pads fully seat themselves and conform to the rotor surface.

have a 01 ranger. have already turned rotors down once. it only has 30,000 miles. now i bought the best grade of rotor. which is the better pad, ceramic or metallic. never have had any luck with ford ranger brakes. i think their junk. but thats another story. one person says us ceramic another says metallic. i don’t really care which one i use even if metallic creates more dust, if it is better on the rotor i will use it. anybody got a clue why the rotors are not lasting. i am in no way hard on brakes. is it the material (rotor) or is it something out of square or parallalism

Whichever one Ford recommends installing is the best one to use. Ceramic pads on a vehicle intended for SM’s are going to eat rotors. Ceramic pads are also not common on truck fitments because they are more heat sensitive.

You need to get with the supplier and ask if they are compatible with your rotors. You need to also know if your rotors are OEM or other after market rotors, if after market ones you need to know what brand and type. If you do not do this you will get premature ware on one or the other part. Hope this helps.

I installed new Ceramic BrakBrake Pads and rotors in my 04 Mitsubishi Galant. I have also put about 500 miles on them(after i installed the new ones..).

I saw this ‘weird’ behavior.

When my car is cold, just starting in the morning, there is NO squeaking whatsoever, but after going for 3-4 miles, there is Squeaking Noise at slow speeds (coming possibly from front..)….

There is no squeaking at high speeds, i.e when I drive on highways….

I also took to the local Firestone shop that replaced the brakes but they were adamant and said that "I was the first customer to complain that ceramic brakes squeak….!!!"…..

Can anyone PLEASE provide me some clues..???

They forgot to put the anti squeal clips or glue on the backs of the new pads.

Do I need a different rotor for these types of pads?

One solution is to buy a matching set from a performance brake source.
