How much will it cost to repair my front brake pads and rotors? 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme?

no need to replace rotors unless damaged due to completely worn down pads to the metal or if they are warped
75 to 100 at the very most to have them replaced

You can do it easily yourself. Google it. You need to jack the car up, a four-way or tire iron, a c-clamp for the calipers, and just a ratchet and the right size sockets. It’s extremely simple I promise just look it up.
Otherwise your average mechanic (where I live anyways) will charge about 100 dollars. I had someone charge me an extra 30 bucks in labor just to add SHIMS for the brakepads, which is when I started doing it myself.

The most accurate answer your going to get is (replace urself) call auto parts store ask what the parts will cost you or (shop) call the local shops see whos cheapest. They will be more than happy to answer your questions

Pads are about $20…. if the rotors can be turned (smoothed with a lathe) and remain a min thickness (required by law) then the labor should be another $50 or so…. if the rotors are too thin or warped (due to excessive heat) they will cost about $60 each….. so totaling it all up ..in the worst case around $150 -$200

If you do it yourself pads are $20-$40. Rotors can be turned at checker for $15 a piece.

Kate, ya, as to the labor replacement costs of your brake pads and rotors, you really need to call some auto service people around in your area and ask for a free estimate.
So, call around, as the cost of labor greatly varies by location. Better yet, I recall plusrecipes.com having a small auto section where they offer great deals, like free estimates from local auto mechanics in your area, whom I would think would know the cost of their replacing your car’s brake pads and rotors–heck right now one ad-link says you could save like 50% through what I read as competitive bidding or something like that–here’s the link:

about an hour or less job if you do it yourself but you will be charged an hour labor at a shop and all shop prices vary.
