How much does it cost to resurface front rotors and replace brake pads?
Brake Pads August 1st, 2009How much does it usually cost to resurface front rotors and replace Brake Pads (including parts/labor)? I have an ’03 Toyota Corolla. Just looking for a rough estimate to see if I am getting ripped off. Also, I know you don’t have to resurface rotors every time but wondering how much it costs.
I just went through this 3 weeks ago! My advice is to make sure you actually NEED this done. I took my car to a chain auto store, Meinike(sp?) and they totally took advantage of me b/c I’m a girl. They told me I needed brakes, which I didn’t!
All together it could run you a few hundred bucks for everything. If you know someone that can do it for you, that would be ideal. I know people like that are hard to come by. But if you do know someone, parts are only like $100-$150.
I don’t think you need to have the rotors resurfaced every time. It just depends on the wear and tear.

$8-$12 a rotor to resurface. Pads from $19-$75 depending on quality. About 1-1.5 hours labor.

Typically under $100 per axle, maybe a little more if they have to replace the rotors.

its about 120.00 total here in upstate NY
can get deals once in a while if a shop has a special going on for about 89.00

What I do when I need something like this done is call about 4 or 5 places and tell them what you need done and get estimates before you commit to having them done.
If they are too rough, they will wear out your brake pads and need resurfacing. Rotors have a tolerance and have to be so thick or they cannot be resurfaced and need to be replaced. Four year old rotors should be OK
You can also call up Pep Boys or Kragen or whatever parts store is in your area and ask them what new pads and rotors cost. Pads are pretty cheap and It might be cheaper to buy new rotors than resurfacing old ones.
Repair places sometimes will triple the cost of parts or more, ESPECIALLY for girl if they think you don’t know what things cost in the first place. If you get some prices upfront, you can tell your mechanic that you DO know that he buys them for $7 and wondering why he’s charging you $30.

brake shop should not charge you to resurface your rotors if they are replacing your pads. overall price depending on the quality ot the pads should be about 79.00

YOU SHOULD GET THE ROTORS TURNED FOR ABOUT $15.OO EACH, PADS RANGE FOR $15.00 A SET FOR CHEAPO’S TO $50.00 A SET FOR THE GOOD ONES.(YOU NEED 4 SETS)
SO AT LEAST $100.00 FOR THE PARTS AND ABOUT $100.00 FOR THE LABOR. SO $200.00 TO $300.00 FOR THE COMPLETE JOB. CAAA-CHING!!!
PS, YOU CAN TAKE YOUR ROTORS TO GET RESURFACED AT AN AUTO PARTS STORE MAYBE CHEAPER. LIKE $10.00 EACH.
