how do you change the rear brake pads on a renault scenic with electronic handbrake?

car is 2006 handbrake automatically operates when engine is stopped there must be a way of doing it without keeping the engine running?

Once you have slackened the wheel nuts off, jacked up the car, simply turn on the ignition, put the card into the reader, then press and hold the start button (don’t press any of the pedals) and keep it held down until the ignition comes on. Then just operate the handbrake lever to release the handbrake. To turn the ignition back off, press the start button twice and remove the card.

Remove the brake calipers and the pads. To push the caliper pistons back you need a special tool as they must be turned whilst applying pressure to push them back.

Replace the pads as normal, refit the calipers and wheels. Pump the brake pedal to push the pistons back out. Now you can turn on the ignition and operate the handbrake. There is no need to adjust the handbrake it does that all itself.

You do NOT need to operate the emergency handbrake release that is found in the boot of the car.

Warped Rotor resurfaced. Do I need to change Brake Pads?

How To Change Brake Pads 4 Comments »

I changed my front rotors and brake pads about 10,000 miles ago. The rotors warped after the lug nuts for my wheels were fastened too tightly and now I have pulsation when I brake. I’m planning to turn my rotors but do I need to change Brake Pads also? The pads are new and I hate to waste them.

Have you priced new rotors? They generally run about $25 a piece and make turning old ones not worth the trouble. The pads should be fine.

What is your favorite brake pads to use?

Well I am about to do my brake pads and there is so many options to choose from. All the auto parts stores have there own brands to choose from. I heard the Wagner brand is good but I have no idea what to choose. Any help will be appreciated!
Thank you!

I choose to use metallic pads over the other type because they seem to have more of a bite on the rotors when stopping. The other type I don’t really care for because to me they wear out sooner. But with all Brake Pads it depends on how you use the brakes. It would be if you ride the brake pedal like I have seen people do while driving they may as well keep there foot on the brake all the time instead of the gas. This type of driving wears out brakes and causes other problem.

Two Chevy Concepts at the New York Auto Show

The best selling brand from General Motors will make another appearance at the New York International Auto Show. Chevrolet will be rolling out two concept vehicles at the forthcoming motor show. These vehicles will be featuring what could be the future of Chevy vehicles.

It is known that concept vehicles are loaded with features that are in the development stage and will in the course of time be integrated into mass produced vehicles. The two concepts from Chevrolet are going to do just that.

Aside from showing the auto world where the brand is going in terms of design for their vehicles, Chevrolet will also give consumers a glimpse of what could be the future of automobiles.

The first of the pair is the Chevy Volt concept electric vehicle. The concept vehicle is a plug-in electric vehicle which means that it comes with an on board battery pack which can be recharged using a common household socket. The vehicle is designed to make the best out of its battery pack designed to provide power for 40 miles of travel. That figure covers the average mileage of an American motorist in one day.

Aside from its plug in capability, the vehicle also has a “range extender”. This is essentially a small internal combustion engine mated to a generator which charges the car’s Lithium-ion battery pack. With this “range extender”, the vehicle’s 40 mile range increases significantly to 640 miles.

This newest version of the Volt features the radical E-Flex Propulsion System by General Motors. The feature allows the vehicle to run on a variety of fuels including electricity, conventional gasoline, E85, and biodiesel. The Volt’s features will surely be made better if complemented with EBC Redstuff Brake Pads.

The second Chevy concept vehicle is the Chevy Camaro Concept. This concept version of Chevy’s pony car is a convertible which gives the Camaro high aesthetic value. The concept convertible which will make an appearance on the Big Apple is daubed with the Hugger Orange pearl tri-coat paint.

The iconic sport stripes are also present including the long hood configuration common on all pony car as started by the Ford Mustang. The wheels of the Camaro are almost pushed to the corners, giving the Camaro the impression of being ready to burn asphalt at a second’s notice. Indeed, this Camaro can rev it up along with the finest car in its class. Its V8 engine provides adequate power to its rear wheels via a sporty manual transmission. This is a car that would definitely receive much adoration from Camaro fans and will probably gain new ones along the way.

These concept vehicles will be showcased at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan where the 2007 New York International Auto Show will be held. The event will be opened to the public on the 6th of April and will run trough the 15th of the same month.

When should I change the Brake Pads for my 2007 Civic Si Sedan?

How To Change Brake Pads 3 Comments »

I bought my Civic Si sedan brand new. It currently still has the stock brake pads on them. It has been about 3 years and I have not changed the pads yet. They do not squeak or anything but they are getting a little thin. As a side note, i do not abuse my car. I drive it normal. But I don’t want to change the Brake Pads if i don’t need to as of yet.

Simply check them every time you rotate your tires. I would change them when they get down to 1/16 of an inch or when the wear indicators start making noise.

New Ceramic Brake pads squealing at LOW speeds(20-25 mph) but not on highway speeds…?

Ceramic Brake pads 1 Comment »

I installed new Ceramic BrakBrake Pads and rotors in my 04 Mitsubishi Galant. I have also put about 500 miles on them(after i installed the new ones..).

I saw this ‘weird’ behavior.

When my car is cold, just starting in the morning, there is NO squeaking whatsoever, but after going for 3-4 miles, there is Squeaking Noise at slow speeds (coming possibly from front..)….

There is no squeaking at high speeds, i.e when I drive on highways….

I also took to the local Firestone shop that replaced the brakes but they were adamant and said that "I was the first customer to complain that ceramic brakes squeak….!!!"…..

Can anyone PLEASE provide me some clues..???

Thanks much
Amit

They forgot to put the anti squeal clips or glue on the backs of the new pads.
