How to change brake pads on a 2003 mazda 6?

How To Change Brake Pads 3 Comments »

I just recently bought a 2003 Mazda 6 with 25,000 mile on it. I notice that there is a slight sqeeke when I break and would like to change the pads now before they wear the rotor. I first thought about going to the shop but the idea of spending $150.00 per axal is appalling (especial when you consider that a set of pads for the front and another for the back only cost a total of $40.00). I also own a 1997 Mazda 626 and have done the front brakes on it a number of times. What I needed to know is is there any difference between changing the brakes on the old one versus the new one. Are there any special tools I need? Are there any free online resources for repair and maintanance? I tried to find a Chiltons or a Haynes at my local auto store but they don't have one for a Mazda 6. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I plan on doing the brakes today so that I may take a road trip this weekend. Thanks

Does Raybestos Ceramic brake pads contain any asbestos?

Ceramic Brake pads 2 Comments »

im planning on buying a front set of these pads for 17 bucks from pepboys but im concerned about asbestos dust being formed from these pads. i heard raysbestos was known as a major contributor of asbestos sickening in the past.

Since the discovery that asbestos is carcinigenic it's use in Brake Pads has been practically outlawed. This is because it's dangerous specifically in the form of powder, which is the result of hitting the brakes.

I nosed around specifically about Raybestos, and from what I've found it seems unlikely that they have any asbestos in them

i need to find brakes and rotors for my honda. i need them for a good price. were can i find it?

Changing brake pads on HHR and turning rotors?

Brake Pads 1 Comment »

I have a 2006 Chevrolet HHR and I need to change the brake pads soon. I changed out the rotors for cross drilled and slotted rotors. Do I need to turn the rotors? Also, how do you change the Brake Pads? Are there caliper bolts that need to be unscewed?

For sure if you change the pads you should always change or resurface the rotors , otherwise your waisting your time and your brakes will never work properly causing more damage to the other brake components on the vehicle too. Not sure about if they've a special hex etc type of mounting screw but probably they do.
Not sure if you know this or not but try to remember when doing this type of work don't ever get grease or brake fluid on any pads or rotors bec grease or oil or brake fluids can and will cause severe contaminates and the brakes will burn causing the severe headaches.Make sure you wipe the rotors off with a smooth clean cloth before installing the new rotors or the callipers etc.
